Build a Sentence: Cut and Paste Sentence Worksheets
Category: Education / Writing Units
Help K-2 students write complete sentences on their own: 50 cut and paste picture worksheets in 4 levels, Starter pages and a teacher guide.
Watch your students go from one-word answers to writing complete sentences on their own. These build a sentence worksheets are made for kindergarten to 2nd grade teachers whose students forget who did it, what happened or where. Students cut three picture cards, glue them in order and write the sentence, and every week they need a little less help. HOW EACH WORKSHEET WORKS
• Rows 1 and 2: cut out the cards, glue Who? + Does what? + When or Where? in order, then write the sentence
• Each row has its own 3 cards, marked with a circle or a triangle, so cards do not get mixed up
• Row 3, "My turn": students write from printed pictures, or draw one part themselves
• A check strip on every page: capital letter, spaces, period
• Only 6 cards to cut per page
5 UNITS, THE HELP FADES STEP BY STEP
• Unit 1, Build It (worksheets 1-10)
• Unit 2, Add When or Where (11-20): students draw when or where
• Unit 3, Draw the Action (21-30): students draw what happens
• Unit 4, Draw Who (31-40): students draw who it is
• Unit 5, My Own Sentence (41-50): students draw and write their own sentence, with an idea to start
4 LEVELS FOR EVERY WORKSHEET
• Level 1, Picture + Words: every card has a picture and the words
• Level 2, Fix the Verb: the action word is in the wrong form (eat instead of eats), students fix it
• Level 3, Pictures Only: no words, students write from the pictures
• Level 4, Add a Describing Word: a word bank helps strong writers make a longer sentence
• Starter pages: one big sentence per page with 3 large cards, for kindergarten and students who need more space
TEACHER GUIDE

HOW TO USE
• Pick a level for each student. Students can work on the same worksheet number at different levels
• Model one row together: read each card, ask the question, glue it, read the sentence, write it
• For young students, fold the page so only one row shows, or start with the Starter pages
• Laminate a page and its cards with hook-and-loop dots to make a reusable center
HOW TO PRINT
• Open the PDF in a free PDF reader
• Print at "Actual size" or 100%, one-sided, so the cards fit the glue boxes
• Plain printer paper (20-24 lb / 75-90 gsm) works well; cardstock is best for laminated centers
