Grade 6 Math Mystery: The Case of the Sapphire Owl
Category: Education / Math Worksheets
A no-prep Grade 6 math mystery: students solve 6 clues to find who stole the Sapphire Owl. Two levels, three case versions, printable and digital.
Turn end-of-year review into a real mystery! The Sapphire Owl has vanished from a museum gala, 12 people are still inside, and only your students' math can name the thief.
Students solve 6 clues, one for each Grade 6 math domain. Every answer turns into a letter with the Answer Decoder, and the letters spell a secret fact about the thief (for example HAS GLASSES or LEFT HANDED). Six facts rule out 11 suspects and leave just one. It is a theft, not a murder: no one is hurt in the story, so it works for every school and family.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
• 4 PDF files, 66 pages each: US Letter color, US Letter ink saver (black and white), A4 color, A4 ink saver
• 1 Story Show PowerPoint (21 slides) to set the scene and reveal the thief

WHY TEACHERS WILL LOVE IT
• Two levels, same answers: Rookie and Detective students can work on the same team
• Three Suspect File versions, so no team can shout out the thief to the next table
• Fits your schedule: a one-period Express Case, a two-day Team Case or a Solo Case
• Self-checking: common mistakes give the wrong letters, so the message will not make sense until the math is right
• Big, clear numbers on light backgrounds and US math terms (GCF, trapezoid)
• Every answer was checked twice in code and once more by an independent check
PERFECT FOR
• End of year review and state test prep
• Back to school review at the start of 7th grade

• Homeschool and tutoring
• Grades 5-7 (written for Grade 6)
