Secondary Teacher Planner Spreadsheet
Category: Planners / Teacher Planners
One lesson plan for all your class periods: each section keeps its own pace, with A/B days, gradebooks and seating charts, for Google Sheets and Excel.
Teach the same course to five or six class periods? Plan each lesson once, and this spreadsheet keeps every section on its own track, even when one class falls behind.
This Secondary Teacher Planner is made for middle and high school teachers who teach one or two subjects to 4 to 8 sections (class periods). You write the unit plan once. Every section of that course follows it at its own speed, on its own A-day or B-day, around your breaks and swapped days.
WHAT'S INCLUDED (1 ZIP download)
• Quick Start Guide (PDF) with Make-a-copy links for the Google Sheets version: Blank + Example
• Secondary Teacher Planner - Blank (.xlsx) for Excel
• Secondary Teacher Planner - Example (.xlsx) with a sample Biology and Environmental Science teacher, 6 sections, filled in
INSIDE THE PLANNER (20 tabs)
• Setup - first day of school, Mon-Fri or Sun-Thu week, "same every day" or A/B day schedule, up to 3 courses, up to 10 bell periods with times, up to 8 sections (course, period, A or B days, room), grade categories and weights, your letter scale, and up to 30 holidays and breaks.
• Today - every section in period order with the lesson it teaches today: unit, objective, activities, materials, homework, and how many class days it is behind or ahead. Plus the next 14 days of tests, quizzes, projects and events, and this week's A/B days. Type any date to look ahead.
• Class Schedule - your bell schedule with A-day and B-day sections side by side, a clash check, and a week view that shows the lesson each period teaches that day.
• Unit Plan - write each lesson once, in order: unit, lesson, number of class days, objective, activities, materials, homework, notes. Up to 300 lessons across your courses.
• Pace Log - when one section loses class time (assembly, fire drill, re-teach), log it with the number of days. Only that section's upcoming lessons slide later. "Catch up" moves it ahead again.
• Pacing - all sections side by side: classes held, lessons done, behind or ahead, next class, planned finish and projected finish. Pick a section to see every lesson's planned date, scheduled date and status.
• Unit Calendar - start and end date of every unit in every section of a course, using each section's real class days.
• Calendar - month view with A/B days, breaks, tests, quizzes, projects and events. Add swapped days ("run as A day", "no classes") and they flow into every tab.
• Rosters - up to 35 students per section, with a notes column.
• Seating Charts - one 6 x 6 desk grid per section. Pick names from that section's roster; duplicates are highlighted and anyone not seated yet is listed beside the chart.
• Assignments - list each assignment once per course with category, date and points. It appears in the gradebook of every section of that course, and tests, quizzes and projects go on the calendar.
• 8 Gradebooks - one per section, up to 50 assignments: weighted categories or total points, letter grades from your scale, M for missing (counts 0), EX for excused, and an average for every assignment.
• Compare Sections - class average, A-F counts, missing work and pace for every section, a bar chart, and each assignment's average by section with the spread, so you can see where one period needs a re-teach.
WHY IT WORKS
• One plan, many sections: no more copying the same lesson into five planners.
• Each section keeps its own pace. A delay in 3rd period never moves 5th period's dates.
• Built for real secondary schedules: A/B block days, swapped days and Sun-Thu school weeks.
• Calm and clear: white and gray pages, and one light blue colour that marks every cell you type in. Everything else is automatic.
• Works in Google Sheets AND Excel. No add-ons, no macros.
PERFECT FOR
• Middle school and high school teachers with several sections of the same course
• Block schedule (A/B day) teachers
• Science, math, English, social studies, language and elective teachers
• New teachers and student teachers who want their pacing in one place
